The Bradford District has attracted national attention as home to the UK's only Community
Statistics Project - a partnership between not-for-profit BRC and Bradford
Council.
For
community, voluntary and campaigning groups, local statistics can often be vital evidence to back up an argument, business plan or a funding
bid. BRC's four statistics workers have spearheaded a community development approach centred on 'critical statistics' alongside helping communities acquire the skills to conduct their own research studies.
In addition, the web design team at Bradford Council have developed a unique, publicly accessible Internet tool able to deliver a range of statistics reports for areas of the user's own choosing.
In short, the Community Statistcs Project is about three things:
assisting local people find their way though the
wealth of information out there, work out what's valuable and use it effectively.
helping local people acquire the skills and confidence to produce their own data and reports, whether to fill information gaps or to create an agenda for change.
keeping community
information needs firmly on the agenda of local agencies.
